Monday5th November 2018

Around 5,500 people enjoyed the return of a joint fireworks display hosted by Durham Constabulary and County Durham and Darlington Fire Service last night.

Crowds from across the county flocked to Police HQ to watch the spectacular 20-minute show, hosted by Capital FM drive time presenter, Martin Lowes.

Durham Volunteer Police Cadet’s played a crucial role in welcoming the thousands into the event and directing people to the fireworks and other facilities. 20 Cadets volunteered to help support the event and did a fantastic job in doing so.

The little ones were kept entertained with fairground rides before and after the display too.

Various local food vans could also be found pitched up at the site keeping everyone warm and refreshed.

A total of £3,000 was raised in aid of Durham Agency against Crime and The Fire Fighters Charity.

Organiser Bryan Russell of the Durham Agency against Crime said: “We are delighted with the feedback we have received from members of the public following the event’s return.

“We wanted to create a safe and fun night out for families and that’s just what we did.

“The event promises to be back next year – bigger and better.”
